HOW TO REFILL LEXMARK INK CARTRIDGES

How to fill Lexmark Inkjet Printer Ink Cartridges using one of our Ink Cartridge Refill Kits

Before you start:

1. Read the instructions carefully.

2. Work over a sink or a surface covered in layers of newspaper (just in case).

3. Only re-fill a cartridge that has just run out ~ this kit will not work with old dried out cartridges. Even 30 minutes can ruin a cartridge if it dries out!

4. Have your printer manual handy for instructions on inserting a “new” cartridge.

1. Locate the filler holes by removing the plastic top cover of the cartridge. You may need to pry this off using a thin metal blade. Ensure you do not damage the sensors on the back of the cartridge whilst doing this.
2. Using the picture, fill syringe with the corresponding colour ink.
3. Insert the syringe into the correct hole of the colour being filled and push all the way down. You will feel resistance as there is a sponge inside. Slowly inject approximately 8ml of ink until you can just see the ink surface on the top of the sponge, any more and it is over-filled. If this happens simply draw back on the syringe a little.
4. Rinse the syringe and needle thoroughly before proceeding then repeat the process for the other colours.
8. Re-attach the cover securely with adhesive tape and continue using the cartridge.

IMPORTANT – for best results, cartridge should be refilled whilst some ink remains
Empty cartridges should be refilled immediately.
This work is best done over the sink.

In the picture shown, we have removed the label to help you identify where the filling holes are located. However we DO NOT RECOMMEND YOU DO THIS.

1. Attach the needle to the syringe and identify the placement of the correct hole for the colour you are filling based on the diagram right.
2. Once you have identified the correct filling hole for the colour and cartridge you are filling, push the needle through the label into the cartridge. You will feel some resistance due to the sponge inside, this is normal.
3. SLOWLY inject ink until the sponge is saturated (approximately 3ml ink).
4. Use adhesive tape to seal up the hole made in the cartridge label before continuing with other colours to avoid contamination.
NOTE: The cartridge will leak if this is not done.
4. Once done, thoroughly rinse the syringe before using with any other colour inks.
5. Reinstall cartridge and run 1-3 test pages as per manufacturers instructions.

IMPORTANT
We recommend refilling prior to the cartridge becoming empty.
Empty cartridges should be refilled immediately.
This work is best done over the sink.

18C0781E (No.1) & 18C0190 (No.2) - Same instructions for both.

1. Put the Ink Cartridge on some paper towels or Newspaper in an area where you can tolerate a spill.
2. Peal off the top label.
3. Follow the canal trace from the edge of the label to the very small hole at the end of the canal. This hole is big enough for a human hair to go through but not a syringe needle.
4. Drill all three holes (Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow) larger with the thumb drill provided.
5. Fill the syringe with 7 ml. of the CORRECT colour ink.
6. Very CAREFULLY inject ink into each chamber until the sponge is full. A little ink might come out of the top when full, so cover up the other two holes while filling one.
7. When finished, replace the top label with some adhesive tape.
8. Replace the cartridge and run 1 - 3 cleaning cycles as per printer instructions.

If necessary leave cartridge in printer for up to 8 hours.
** NOTE** The cartridge will print just like a new one. Even though the cartridge prints fine, the ink level gauge will not read full after a refill.

Frequently asked questions concerning ink cartridges.

IMPORTANT On "Chipped" cartridges the most common problems are the chips which sometimes get STATIC ~ to cure this simply rub the chip with a pencil rubber OR if this does not work then try installing the cartridge with the PC switched off ~ then once the cartridge is installed simply switch the PC back on . These 2 solutions solve over 95% of all reported "faults".

Other than the above:

"Installed Ink Cartridge cannot be recognised"

Take the cartridge out of the printer and reinstall again to ensure the contact points on the cartridge and on the printhead are aligned. Whilst doing so, it is imperative that you do not touch the computer chip with your fingers as the static electricity naturally created by the human body may have a detrimental effect on the chip. If the message still reappears, turn the printer off (physically unplug it for 3-5 minutes - do not just switch off) and then back on again.

VERY IMPORTANT ~ Never leave your Lexmark printer without an installed cartridge (even an empty one) for more than a few minutes ~ ideally you should change the cartridge immediately with NO DELAY, because the ink ~ either the original or compatible, will begin to thicken/gel very quickly to the consistency of honey, which will require multiple cleaning routines to clear. The higher the resolution of your printer the quicker this process will occur.

If your cartridge is not printing or printing poorly, the most common problem is that you have an air bubble in the exit tube of your cartridge. Remember that the absence of ink is the same as an air bubble. You can confirm that this is the problem if the printhead cleaning routine actually makes the problem worse. For cartridges without chips attached it is rarely/never the cartridge that is at fault as they are just simple tanks with sponges and ink in them. Therefore to solve this problem that usually occurs after printing 1 or 2 good pages (What is happening is that a small air bubble expands under the vacuum of printing to form a large air bubble, which blocks the flow of ink to the printhead) you need to let the printer sit without printing for several minutes, while tapping on the top of the cartridge. This may get the air bubble to move to the top of the cartridge but it may not. If it does not remove the cartridge and try again. This time though carefully squeeze the cartridge to get a very small amount of ink (a drop!) that should be put directly into the point where the cartridge is plugged into. But be very careful not to squeeze to hard!
